Let me inspire you. Truth be told, we all at some point need a push to get us doing what we really want to do as early as possible, and that’s because we overthink things.
I’ve come to realize that many people who haven’t started their blog fall into to categories;
*ONE: You don’t know how to go about it
**SECOND: You’re too afraid/nervous/worried to get started (it’s understandable)
If you’re one of those people, you can remedy the first issue by heading over here to my definitive guide on starting a blog from scratch. You’ll find every thing you need along the way to get started.
If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog but fear is keeping you from moving forward, I’ve got news for you . . . you’re over-thinking it, you’re using fear for procrastination, and you should start a blog anyway.
Sometimes, what we put in our mind affects our head, and our thoughts about what other people might think about us could halt our progress.
There are just enough reasons to start your own blog today, and it’s never too late to take that leap.
Here are the 6 objections most people have and my advice for kicking them to the curb so you can finally launch your blog.
What if too many people are blogging about my topic?
If you take a minute to browse Pinterest, you will find bloggers blogging about every topic imaginable.
Yes, people are probably already blogging about your topic, but this is actually a good thing! It means there is already an audience ready to read what you have to say.
Don’t worry about jumping into a crowded niche (they all are!). Use your personality, your quirks, flaws, and experiences to write about your topic in your own way.
YOU are what is going to make your blog stand out, so write about whatever the hell you want!
Still, you can go through my collection of 83+ profitable niches (topics) you can cover on your blog.
What if I screw up?
What if you tweet a post before it’s live? Use an image you didn’t really have the rights to? Are awkward on social media?
The internet is forever…and it’s not.
Yes, you might feel super embarrassed about your blogging faux pas, but #1: it’s likely not that many people noticed, and #2: if they did, they’ll forget about it in two seconds.
I have made series of mistakes when i was first starting out, (and I still do!).
For example, I’ve spent a reasonable amount of money on promoting a product, just to realize that hundreds of people who clicked went to a blank page!
I’m human and you are too. You shouldn’t let the mistakes you’ve made (+ ones you’ll make in the future) define you, and your goals.
Guess what; I’m probably the only one who remembers my mistake.

What if I put time into building a blog and then want to change everything?
If you’re unsure about what you want to blog about or keep going back and forth on topics or designs, it’s best to just start anyway. Research and planning are great until it turns into procrastination.
Blog about whatever (try to still stick to a weekly schedule) and use this time to learn and figure everything out. Be messy and imperfect. And then go back and delete and adjust once you find your path.
What if no one reads it?
Truth be told, sometimes it seems like people become popular overnight, but this stuff takes time. Sometimes it’s not months, but YEARS before thousands of pageviews and followers show up.
The blogging guides and resources you’ll find here can help you move things faster for sure, but don’t give up on what you’re working toward just because it isn’t happening as quickly as you hoped.
Be consistent, put yourself out there (YES, even if it’s scary), and you’ll start to see growth.
What if my offline friends and family find out?
The truth is…they probably won’t get it.
Most people still assume that blogging is all about telling strangers on the internet your personal information. And sometimes it is – adding a little of your story and experience helps to connect with your audience better than just the facts. But a lot of time, blogging is just about sharing information, learning, and finding inspiration.
If your offline peeps don’t understand why you’re talking to strangers on the internet, just nod and smile and come back here to hang out with me. I totally get it.
On the other hand, you might be surprised. When I finally connected my blog to my Facebook account (which is just for friends and family), I got lots of compliments and surprised comments about how I could do something outside what others are doing. I even had a few friends pop up asking for advice on starting their own blogs.
Whether they think you’re awesome or they think you’re a weirdo, you should start a blog anyway.
What if people get pissed off by what I have to say?
Even the nicest bloggers blogging about the most harmless subjects will offend someone just by existing. And someday it will probably happen to you too.
Don’t let this possibility stop you from blogging. (Yes, even if you’re not always nice and lean toward the outspoken and controversial.)
Up until now, most of the people who dislike me and my blog take issue with the fact that I can make my own schedule. It’s one thing if they’re joining the discussion, but if their comment is nothing but snark, I just send it to the spam folder. Done and done.
Remember this rule about jerks on the internet: their problem with you is THEIR problem, not yours. Blog your heart out and delete, delete, delete anybody that’s going to be nasty about it.
By the way . . . it gets less scary
Even after over 7 years there are still times when I click publish or launch a product and hold my breath waiting for something bad to happen.
These times are few and far between now, but even when they pop up I never let those feelings stop me. The potential for good stuff to come out of it ALWAYS outweighs the potential for bad stuff.
So just give it a shot and see what happens
While you’re over there worrying about who might see you screw up or think you’re lame or be offended, you’re forgetting all the people who NEED to hear what you have to say.
The people who are waiting for someone to share their experience or give them advice or reach out to them online. Blogging is kind of amazing in that way. Just as much as you need it, it needs you.
Now head over to my Blogging Road Map and join others to get started.
Remember; the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is NOW!
